February 2007 - Santa Barbara County

Our first long trip with the trailer. We stayed in the Flying Flags RV Resort in Buellton. It rained, rained, rained the entire way to Buellton, and let up as we were setting up. It rained a little the first night, then it was great weather the rest of the trip.

Since wine tasting is one of our hobbies, and there are so many wineries in this area, we decided to hit the wineries that were in the movie "Sideways" (really original...). Santa Barbara County actually has a Sideways tour map, so we were on our way. We visited the following wineries: Sanford, Kalyra, Firestone, Foxen, Fess Parker. We also visited Curtis and Mosby which were not in the movie. Really enjoyed Mosby winery and their Italian style wine. Bought a case of Lucca red table wine.

The Hitching Post Restaurant, Buellton, CA. -GREAT steak. (Kong was a hit).

NOTE: You will see our King Kong ("Kong") statue in many photos. He is our version of the Traveling Gnome. The Gimpels have their Godzilla ("Zilla") and we all share pictures of our adventures through Kong and Zilla's eyes. The California Gimpels (Ali and Ross) now have a hand knitted Henry Rollins doll that will share their adventures. If you know our families, you'll understand. If you don't know us, we don't expect you to understand, but hope you enjoy.

There was almost a 2 hour wait for dinner, so we enjoyed a bottle of Highliner Pinot Noir.

The Fess Parker Winery
(Frass Canyon in the movie). We actually saw Fess walking through the tasting room. Good wine too! We bought a case of Pinot Noir and joined the wine club. Very dog friendly.

Picture of "Old Davy" and his son (and of course, Kong).

Yes, they do sell Coon Skin Hats for wine bottles. Being old Davy Crockett fans, we bought one, of course...

Foxen Winery - Another beautiful day and a good picnic site.

The winery dog and Kong. Our dogs were happily napping in the truck.

Goleta
Trail to a beach in Goleta.

The beach in Goleta.

Solvang - Lunch in Solvang with Kong.

Do you know that Chauntel lives in Goleta!!! She's probably stepped in your dog's poo on that beach!

I actually thought of Chauntel and George when we were there! Dad said that since we pick up after our dogs, Chauntel was not in danger of stepping in THEIR poo...
